In a special operation at the Darshana border, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intercepted a significant smuggling attempt, recovering approximately 6 kilograms of Indian silver.
The seizure was announced in a press release signed by Assistant Director Haidar Ali of the Chuadanga-6 BGB Battalion on Thursday night.
Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team from the battalion, under the directive of Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Hassan, laid an ambush near the paved road along the Mathabhanga River in Rudranagar village. The location is about 4 kilometers inside Bangladesh from border pillar 77/2-S.
As evening fell, two suspected individuals entered the area on a motorcycle from the border direction. When BGB members signaled them to stop, the suspects abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot.
A subsequent search of the seized motorcycle revealed the contraband. The Indian silver, ingeniously concealed inside the motorcycle's fuel tank and wrapped in polythene, was discovered.
According to BGB estimates, the total weight of the recovered silver is 5 kilograms and 912 grams, with an approximate market value of Tk 23,01,968.
In connection with the incident, BGB member Habildar Mizanur Rahman has filed a case with the Darshana Police Station against two unidentified smugglers. The motorcycle has been handed over to the police station, and the silver has been deposited at the Chuadanga District Treasury Office.
The BGB has affirmed that its regular operations to prevent the smuggling of gold and silver across the border will continue.
