BGB detains 200 people, seizes Tk 18cr smuggled goods, drugs in one year

Border guard Bangladesh (BGB) members seized smuggled goods and drugs worth Tk 18 crore from different areas adjacent to Benapole border in Jashore in the last one year. A total of 201 persons involved in the smuggling were arrested by BGB in the same time. 

Jashore 49 Border Guard Battalion Commanding officer Lt. Col  Selim Reza informed this in a press conference highlightening the success of the BGB in last one year.

He said that in the last year, 13 pistols, 24 magazines, 56 rounds of ammunition, 26 kg of gold bars, 20,626 bottles of Indian Phensidyl, 548 kg of cannabis, 408 bottle of liquor, 567 pieces of yaba pills and 40 grams of heroin were recovered by BGB men while, goods worth Tk 18 crore 65 lakh 40 thousand 500 were recovered by them as well.

He added that for a long time, some drug and arms dealers at the border have been using various tactics to bring drugs and weapons from India and sell them across the country. At the same time they are smuggling money through gold and hundi. 

Intelligence operations were intensified in the border areas to identify drug, arms, gold and money smugglers. Following which a large quantity of arms and drugs are being seized and the accused are being detained in the border. 

The BGB official said the Big smugglers do not carry illegal goods including drugs, gold and money themselves.

That is why it was not possible to detain them with the goods. Moreover, it is not possible to bring them under the law due to lack of evidence.
