BGB Task forces conducted a drive against the illegal excavation of stones and sand and against the stone crusher machines from the frontier Jafflong area under Goainghat upazila of Sylhet district, said a press release signed by Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Haque, Commander of Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB).
The task force teams disconnected the electric connections of 67 stone crusher machines and seized those stone machines with the electric meters during the drive.
Headed by Ratan Kumar Adhikary, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Goainghat upazila, the task force comprising of BGB, Administration, Polices, Ansars and the officials of the Department of Environment under the direct supervision of BGB, Sylhet Battalion (48) conducted raids at the Cluster villages, Mohammadpur, Mama's shop, Ballarghat and Melar math areas and disconnected the illegal electric supply systems of 67 stone crusher machines there and seized those stone crusher machines with the electric meters.
Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Haque, Battalion Commander of Sylhet Battalion informed, the BGB was working tirelessly to ensure the security of the state properties in addition to the protection of the frontiers.
As a part of its activities, BGB in addition to the local administration, has intensified operations at the frontier areas and operating regular task forces to stop illegal excavation of sand, stones and to retain the environmental balance.
Ratan Kumar Adhikary, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Goainghat informed, the illegally excavated stones were being crushed illegally through the crushing machines in Jafflong area for a long time which was a threat to the environment and public health.
Legal actions have been taken against the illegal activities.
