The Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) has voiced deep concern over the ongoing situation surrounding the quota system in government jobs, urging for a logical reform.

In a statement issued on Monday, BFUJ President Omar Farooq and General Secretary Deep Azad emphasised the journalistic community's support for a rational overhaul of the quota system, aligning with the sentiments of conscious circles across the country.

"While supporting the demand for reform, we believe the movement should not be misrepresented as opposed to our liberation war or its heroes," the statement read. The BFUJ leaders highlighted incidents where anti-press sentiments were mingled with slogans of the liberation war, condemning such actions.

The statement highlighted the need for collaboration among agitators, judiciary, and the executive to achieve a balanced and legally sound reform.

"It's imperative that the movement avoid causing undue public inconvenience and instead

focus on constructive dialogue," they urged.

The BFUJ reaffirmed its commitment to upholding journalistic integrity while advocating for social reforms, urging stakeholders to prioritise national unity and progress in their endeavours.
