Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited has earned a profit of Tk 38.37 crore in three months by importing corona vaccine.
The company has made a profit of around Tk 77 per vaccine.
It was stated on Sunday that in the third quarter (January to March 31, 2021), Beximco Pharma's profit was 146 crore 32 lakh 47 thousand 566 taka, which is about one and a half times more than the previous year, according to the sources of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
As per DSE, Beximco Pharma is importing the Oxford-AstraZeneca Corona vaccine from the Serum Institute of India.
To prevent coronavirus in the country, the company has agreed to bring a total of 3 crore doses of vaccine. According to the agreement, a total of 50 lakh vaccines were brought from Serum in the three months from January to March. Excluding all taxes and expenses, the profit has been 38 crore 37 lakh.
According to the DSE, Beximco Pharma, which has been dominating the capital market for the last six to eight months, has seen its earnings per share (EPS) rise by Tk 3.28 in the last quarter, which was Tk 2.2 taka at the same time in 2020. In other words, it has increased by 56 crore 21 lakh 1 thousand 233 taka compared to last year. Of this, Tk 38.37 crore has been earned from the import of the Covid-19 vaccine.
As a result, shares of Beximco Pharma, which was traded at Tk 85 on August 2 last year, were bought and sold on May 2 at Tk 192.50. In other words, the share price has increased by more than Tk 100 in 9 months.
Beximco Pharma is the only company contracted to import the Oxford-AstraZeneca Corona vaccine from the Serum Institute of India. The vaccine is being imported under a tripartite agreement between the Bangladesh government, Serum Institute and the company.
Under the agreement, Beximco Pharma will import 3 crore doses of vaccine from the Serum Institute of India. Out of these dose vaccines, the company has so far brought 70 lakh vaccines. At present, import of vaccines from India has remained stopped.
Of the 44 crore 61 lakh 12 thousand shares of the company, which was listed on the stock exchange in 1986, 30.18 pc are held by entrepreneur-managers, 20.19 pc by institutional investors, 27.49 pc by foreigners and 22.14 pc by ordinary investors.
The company, which is currently in debt of about Tk 1,000 crore, paid 20 pc cash and 10 per cent bonus dividends to shareholders in 2020.
