Betar authorities urged to air qualitative, pro-people progs

World Radio Day observed in districts

With the theme ‘Radio and Diversity’, the World Radio Day-2020 was observed in different districts as elsewhere across the world on Thursday (February 13) aiming to utilizing the communication tool for diversity in the society.

On the occasion, colorful rally, discussion, seminar and cultural programme were arranged by various platform in the district level. In the programmes, the speakers urged the Betar authorities to air qualitative and pro-people programmes so that the target group of people can derive its total benefits.

Our correspondents sent reports on the issue. In Khulna, a colourful rally was brought out in the city marking the day. Later, a discussion was held on the premises of Khulna Betar, reports our Khulna Correspondent. 

Additional Divisional Commissioner (general) of Khulna Md Habibul Haque Khan attended the discussion as the chief guest. Regional Director of Khulna region of Bangladesh Betar Md Bashir Uddin presided over the event, while it was addressed, among others, by deputy chief information officer of Khulna regional information office M Javed Ikbal, executive director of Rupantar Swapan Kumar Guh and executive director of Sundarban Academy Prof Anwardul Kadir. 

In Rajshahi, the World Betar Day-2020 was celebrated here amid much enthusiasm and in a befitting manner.

Marking the day, officials and artists of Regional Station of Bangladesh Betar accompanied by some members of the civil society brought out a rally with the main theme of ‘Betar and Diversity’. Representatives and staff of Community Radio Padma and Mohananda also joined the rally.

After parading different streets, the rally ended at Betar Bhaban where a discussion and a cultural function were held. Language Veteran Abul Hossain and Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with Hassan Akhter, Regional Director of Bangladesh Betar, in the chair.

Regional Engineer Farzana Afroze, Deputy Regional Directors Sharifur Rahman and Sheuly Rani Basu and Assistant Directors Dewan Abul Bashar, Nadim Sultan and Masum Parvej also spoke. Abul Hossain said the Betar has been playing a vital role towards reaching the emergency messages to the remotest people..

In this country, the prime role of radio is to give a voice to people who do not have access to mainstream media and do not have the opportunity to express their views on their community development.

In his remarks, Akbarul Hassan Millat said the major tasks of community radio is to promote the right to communicate, expediting the process of informing the community, assisting the free flow of information and acting as a catalyst of change and therefore there should be no exceptions locally.

He urged the betar authority to air qualitative and pro-people programmes so that the target group of people can derive its total benefits.
