The current Bangladesh roaster consisting of elite players like Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mustafizur Rahman, and many more are undoubtedly the greatest Bangladesh squad to date.

Tigers marked their return to international cricket after more than a 10-month halt due to coronavirus pandemic with a convincing six-wicket victory over West Indies in the first of the three-ODIs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday. This win was not a surprise at all as we all knew that the Windies team were nowhere near in terms of Bangladesh’s squad excellence.

Since playing their first ODI against Pakistan at the 1986 Asia Cup, Bangladesh had to wait 12 years and 21 more games before notching their first win in the format, doing so by beating Kenya in 1998. The Tigers have since won 123 times in their subsequent 345 ODIs, notching up at least one win against each of the 18 different teams they have faced in the format. Most of those wins and successes came under the current crop of players.

Bangladesh have significantly improved in ODIs over the years, emerging as one of the toughest teams to beat at home. In this impressive rise of the Bangladesh cricket team, there have been a few players who stood up and performed exceedingly well to take their team to where they are today. This team have become a formidable one since 2015.

Since 2015, Bangladesh reached the quarterfinals of the 2015 ICC World Cup in Australia, won series against India, Pakistan, and South Africa at home, reached the semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy in England in 2017 and performed admirably in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. No other Bangladesh team of the past were nowhere near the success and consistent performances the current team hold.

The 'Tigers', as their fans proudly hail them, have worked extremely hard to get to this position, and their success surely hasn't been an overnight affair. The next dream will be to win an ICC trophy and with this current roaster Tigers fanatics can dare to dream.
