BERDO observes ‘Sadachhari day’

Blind Education and Rehabilitation Development Organization (BERDO) organized a rally and discussion meeting in their headquarters highlighting the importance of Shadachari (white cane) on Saturday.

The theme of this year's Sadachhari Day was "Digital Sadachhari helps to walk safely”.

Md Akhtaruzzaman, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology was present as the chief guest. Mosharraf Hossain Majumder, Senior Advocate in the Supreme Court and Md Jahangir Alam, President of BERDO also addressed the meeting. Md Sher Ali read out the main article and students performed cultural programs in the conclusive stages.

A discussion meeting of the second phase was held in the afternoon. The topic of the discussion was Shadachari’s income generating programs. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, Executive Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare, was present as the chief guest in the second part of the discussion meeting and Dr Md Nurul Alam, Additional Director was present as the special guest. 

In his speech, the chief guest said, “We are doing a lot for the development of people with disabilities and we will do what needs to be done in the future.” Md Saidul Haque, Executive Director of BERDO, in his speech said, “I had to put a lot of effort to bring BERDO to where it stands right now and it makes me really happy to be in this position today.” 

In the second part, the keynote address was delivered by Firoza Khatun, Deputy Manager of BERDO. Hosne Ara Begum, Treasurer of BERDO, M. Selim Uddin and Md Shahid Ullah, Deputy Directors and officials of various organizations, journalists, local dignitaries, officials and employees of the organization were present during the event.

Visually impaired individuals were present and many of them gave speeches. At the end of the program, white cane was distributed among the visually impaired students and other individuals.
