BERDO holds workshop, rally marking 34th Intl & 27th National Day of Persons with Disabilities

Blind Education and Rehabilitation Development Organization (BERDO) on Saturday organized a programme with a colourful rally followed by a workshop marking the 34th International and 27th National Day of Persons with Disabilities at Mirpur of Dhaka City.


This year’s theme of the day was “Fostering disability inclusive society for advancing social progress",


Dr. Md. Omar Faruk, rector of Bangladesh Civil Services Academy under Ministry of Public Administration, Government of Bangladesh was present in the meeting as Chief Guest.


He, in his speech, said that he would do everything possible to his part to fulfil mission and goal of BERDO.  


He also commented that establishment of BERDO Eye Hospital and Modern Braille Press would be instrumental for promotion of education of Blind & visually impaired children in Bangladesh.


BERDO officials, BERDO Blind School students, distinguished guests and media representatives were among other present in the occasion.

Feroza Khatun, Deputy Manager of BERDO, presented Key Note paper in the workshop.

A set of recommendations were placed during the discussion which include fixing seat at National Assembly for PWDs, formation of a separate Ministry for persons with disabilities, formation of a Commission, increase amount of Allowances, increase Budgetary Allocation for PWDs.


In the meeting, Md. Saidul Huq, BERDO executive Director, highlighted BERDO activities and performance in detail.

In the workshop Hose Ara Begum, BERDO Treasurer, presented welcome speech. Advocate Mossarf Hossan Mazumder, BERDO Chairperson, presided in the meeting.

In his speech, Md. Mazumdar underscored the importance of celebrating. “All of us must come forward to safeguard their rights, safety and development," he said.”.


He also added that this observance would contribute in raising awareness on PWDs rights and their inclusion in development process and this day serves as a reminder for society to ensure equal opportunities and rights, ensuring PWDs to participate fully in national development”.
