PM to inaugurate the Dhaka-Benapole direct train service

 The much-awaited train ‘Benapole Express’ is all set to hit Benapol-Dhaka rail route for the maiden trip today (July 17). The introduction of train communication between Dhaka and Benapole will be a unique example for people of Jashore region.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to launch train service through a videoconference from Ganabhaban. The train will leave Benapole for Dhaka in the afternoon. Benapole Railway Station Master Saiduzzaman confirmed the matter.

Around 6,000-7,000 people from different parts of the country, especially Dhaka, travel to India through the Benapole Checkpost every day. The train service will ease travelling to Benapole.

A lot of passengers come from Dhaka face traffic congestion in Daulatdia-Paturia Ferry Ghat, passengers were subjected to many harassment. The train service will ease the sufferings.

Saiduzzaman said the train has 10 bogies. The name of the train is Benapole Express has been fixed by the prime minister. He said there will be two cabins, two AC chairs and the remaining chairs in 10 compartments. It is newly imported from Indonesia.  

Cabin rental will be initially Tk 1,200, AC chair rent will be Tk 1,000 and non AC chair will be 485 taka. It will be stopped only at Ishwardi for changing the drive.  In one word, the rail will run as nonstop.

Locals said that for the business and medical treatment, Benapole route is very easy to communicate with Kolkata. So, the number of passengers will increase when the train service is introduced. Government revenues will also be increased.

Alamgir Hossain, a bus passenger from Dhaka in Benapole check post, on Monday said, “Due to the traffic congestion of Aricha Ghat, and Daulodia ferry ghat we have face suffering. The train service will ease the suffering.”

Urmila Sen, the same bus passenger, said that her sick father would be able to take medical treatment in India. “We faced lot of trouble from Dhaka. We fell sick in night sitting inside the bus. If the rail service is introduced, we can easily go to India,” she said.   

Benapole C & F Agents Association’s President Mofizur Rahman Sozan said, “I am really happy. Now we can easily go to India for business and treatment purpose. Our communication with India is very easy and short through Benapole,” he said.

Motiar Rahman, chairman of the Export-Import Sub-Committee of India Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (Land port sub-committee), said that the government is fulfilling their dreams.
