People of the Bede community living in Habiganj Bede Palli along with their wives and children are in dire state amid the coronavirus pandemic. Now, there is no one to help them.
Chamina Begum in her fifties. Despite the scarcity, her family was doing well. But after the onset of corona infection, they are in a difficult situation now. There is only one child in the family, he is also unemployed.
Chamina said that in the family of two, the daily income was one to two hundred taka. Which was their only means of daily food and medicine. But since corona they have no income. Although she went out to the area for a few days, she did not earn much. They have been living without food for the last four months.
Selina Akhter was making flour bread next to Chamina's house. She came forward and expressed her sorrow. The family of six, including four children, lived on the income earned from this profession. But after the onset of corona infection, this source of income is also hindered.
Habiganj Sadar Upazila Khowai river embankment on the road to the location of the dam is the location of this Bede community village. They built a temporary residence here about 15 years ago. It was seen on the spot that about thirty children were running. Many do not have clothes. Residents said that none of them was admitted to the school.
Abdul Gafur was the chief of the village. His son Salman Mia is in charge after he died. Salman said their permanent residence is in Sylhet. They came here 15 years ago. They have been in a state of complete helplessness since corona started. They do not get to eat rice every day.
Despite receiving assistance for two days, no one stood by them within five months as they were not voters in the area. "We still have the opportunity to study for free, so why not send our children to school," Salman said. "We are not voters here." That's why I don't get proper help. Who will teach our children?
