Becoming Sadek Bachchu

Everyone knows Sadek Bachchu, the villain of the glittering colorful big screen. He has acted in about 500 films. But the story of this Sadek Bachchu is not easy. After the death of Sadek Bachchu’s father, who had just passed matriculation, the responsibility of the entire family of 11 people including brothers, sisters, mother and grandmother fell on his shoulders. Today, he is known as Sadek Bachchu, continuing his studies and acting by fulfilling that responsibility.

He started acting in radio in 1963 through Khelaghor. At the same time, he also walked on the stage. The first theater is ‘Gananatya Parishad.’ In the post-liberation period of 1972-73, when the cultural belt of the country was being formed anew, he joined the group theater. At that time he was walking with a group called Unmochon. After it broke, they jointly made the ‘Prothom Podokkhep’.

This group also broke up, later on. But the enterprising Sadek Bachchu is not get disappointed. He established ‘Motijheel Theater’ in 1984. He was still associated with this theater which was established 34 years ago. Recently, on Valentine’s Day, a new production took place in the studio theater of Shilpakala Academy by the theatre troupe.

Meanwhile, Sadek Bachchu had taken himself to a unique height. He became known all over the country through the film ‘Chandni’. Although he had already become popular through the small screen, he made his television debut in 1974. 

His first film was based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s ‘Ramer Sumoti’ in which he played the lead role. Shahidul Amin was the director. He also starred opposite Sunetra in another film but the film was not released. He made his villainous acting debut in the film ‘Shukher Shondhane’. Ilias Kanchan was the hero in this film of Shahidul Haque Khan.

He was brilliant in TV dramas even after his debut in the film. It was at this time that he produced ‘Jonaki Jwale’ produced by Zia Ansari. It was a huge hit drama on BTV at that time. Through this play, Sadek Bachchu became known. Here he played the role of a Razakar. He then acted in many popular plays including Selim Al Deen.

Sadek Bachchu’s real name is Mahbub Ahmed Sadek. Although Chandpur is the home of the country, he was born in Dhaka. 

He not only acted, but also wrote profusely. Biswajit Saha, the head of Muktadhara Prakashan, has published a play written by Sadek Bachchu. Sadek Bachchu is an officer of Bangladesh Postal Department. He continued his acting career while working and acting was his passion.
