Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has urged the British government to be vocal for the migrant workers facing trouble in the Middle-East due to coronavirus outbreak.

He made the call when British state minister for foreign affairs Lord Ahmed phoned him and requested him to give shelter to Rohingyas stranded in the Bay of Bengal along the Myanmar border.

Dr Momen also discussed the contemporary issues and said sought UK’s support for the expatriates in the Middle East who become jobless and exposed to extreme sufferings in some countries amid  COVID-19 shutdowns.  He sought support for them on humanitarian ground, the foreign ministry said.

“The developed world including the UK should be vocal in retaining their (migrant workers in ME) jobs under humanitarian ground,” the foreign ministry statement quoted him as saying.

Dr Momen also urged UK support so that British buyers do not cancel their orders from Bangladeshi garment factories during this global crisis of coronavirus.

He also urged the British minister to make a special fund to keep rolling the supply chain of the ready made garments in the UK during and after the pandemic.

The foreign minister also informed him that Bangladesh would send medical supplies to the UK for helping the British government combating the virus.

The British minister thanked him and expressed gratitude for the gesture, the foreign ministry said.
