Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Friday said that Bangladesh wants to play a “leading role” in establishing lasting peace in the world.
He said it is necessary to reduce hatred towards each other irrespective of religion, caste and group to reduce wars, conflicts and unrest in the world.
“Violence is displacing thousands of people around the world. Violence is also the reason for the displacement of 1.1 million Rohingyas in Myanmar,” he said.
Dr Momen was speaking at a freshers’ reception event of the Southeast University summer semester 2020 held virtually.
He hoped that the students would make an important contribution to build this country as Bangabandhu's golden Bengal by developing themselves as qualified through proper education.
He also stressed the need for IT education and said the job market around the world is open for IT professionals.
“In this case, our students need to acquire skills. At present, Bangladesh has about 6 lakh skilled manpower in the field of information technology. Due to the foresight of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has achieved unimaginable success in this sector,” he said.
The Foreign Minister said that education is the most important for the development of any country.
“When education is weak, policies, state laws are weak, the country lags behind. That is why quality education is always important. Improved life is not possible without education.
“Success comes with confidence and making the most of the present. You have to take inspiration from the past but you should not sit with the past,” he said, asking them “to work hard now to live a safe life in the future”.
