Bangladesh, for the first time, is going to participate at the WorldSkills Competition 2019, scheduled to be held during August 22-27, 2019 in Kazan, Russia. The National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has completed all necessary preparations in this regard.
Two contestants from Bangladesh - Tanjim Tabassum Islam will contest the global skills competition from confectionery and patisserie trade while Nafisa Sadaf Achol from fashion designing. They were selected through the nation-wide Rising Star Competition last year.
Executive Chairman of the NSDA Md. Faruque Hossain said this at a press briefing organized at NSDA office on Wednesday to share the preparation of the government for contesting the world skills competition. He said, participating at the global skills competition is a pride for the nation.
Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Sajjadul Hassan spoke at the press briefing as the chief guest. NSDA members, senior officials, representatives from different ISCs, contestants, technical experts were present at the press briefing.
The two contestants would be able to perform their best at Kazan competition and necessary supports are being provided to them. Hotel Radisson, InterContinental Dhaka and Coopers are providing supports for grooming the contestants in Confectionery and Patisserie, while BGMEA for fashion designing. Concerned Industry Skills Councils (ISCs) are providing all-out supports, Faruque Hossain said expressing gratitude to the concerned for their cooperation in preparing the competitors.
Sajjadul Hassan said, there is no alternate to transforming country’s large workforce into skilled manpower in order to enhancing job scopes for them as well as enabling for self-employment. Referring to the slogan of the government’s political manifesto - ‘Power of Youths; Bangladesh’s Growth’, he said that the government pledged for transforming youths into skilled manpower and creation of jobs for them.
In order to coordinate the country’s efforts in building the large youth population of the country into skilled manpower and ensuring the standard of the skills provided to them, the government has formed the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), he said. Through participating at the World Skills Competition in Kazan, the Bangladeshi youths would be able to significantly focus the standards of their skills in the international arena, Sajjadul Hassan said.
Executive Chairman of the NSDA Md. Faruque Hossain said, Bangladesh, as the 79th member of the WorldSkills International, is going to participate at the global level competition which is a matter of pride for the nation. The authority, also a member of the WorldSkills Asia, would arrange nation-wide skills competition and ensure participation of Bangladeshi youths in all competitions in regional and global levels as well, Faruque added.
“Through participating at the WorldSkills Competition-2019, Bangladesh would successfully be able to make exposure of its capability of generating highly-skilled international-standard manpower in various trades,” Faruque said, adding, “This would help boost exports of skilled Bangladesh manpower in different countries.”
