When top HSBC official Francois de Maricourt termed Bangladesh as the fastest growing economy in the Asia Pacific region, Finance Minister A.H.M Mustafa Kamal has urged British entrepreneurs to inject more funds for tapping investment potentials here.

The finance minister made this call at a breakfast meeting as the Guest of Honour, hosted by the Chair of the British Business Group (BBG), Francois de Maricourt and British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson on Wednesday.

Francois de Maricourt, said companies of the United Kingdom (UK) are among the biggest investors in Bangladesh and are fully supporting the country’s growth.

“Bangladesh is the fastest growing economy in the Asia Pacific region, with HSBC forecasting growth of 8.1 percent this year,” he noted.

Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, chairman of the Padma Bank Limited and managing director of the country's largest combined cycle power plant, Unique Meghnaghat Power Limited, also attended the breakfast meeting.

Robert Chatterton Dickson said the UK was a long standing friend of Bangladesh, and some British companies had been here since the birth of the country in 1971. He wanted to see the British business presence increase in the years ahead.

The finance minister said Bangladesh is strategically positioned between China, India and other growing economies in Asia, and that its time has come.

He acknowledged that the country needed foreign direct investment (FDI) to move forward and said that more British companies should look to invest in Bangladesh and take advantage of its young and growing population.
