BD could have reached current economic position in mid-80s had Bangabandhu survived: Fahim

"If Bangabandhu had survived, Bangladesh could have reached its current economic position in the mid-eighties, and the country would have been a developed country by now" said FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim on Saturday.

He said under Bangabandhu's able leadership, the GDP growth was 9.2 percent in 1975. Bangabandhu had sown the seeds of development of all kinds in the interest of the masses. 

FBCCI President made remarks while addressing a  discussion meeting organised by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) to commemorate the 45th Anniversary of Martyrdom of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day 2020 with due solemnity.

Fahim further said Bangladesh is moving forward under the leadership of the People's Champion Sheikh Hasina following Bangabandhu's paved path. Today, the people of the country are reaping the benefits.

Country's apex trade body, the FBCCI observed the day through various programs day long  on Saturday (15th August 2020). 

The national flag hoisted at half-mast in front of the FBCCI Icon Building at 60 Motijheel with processions carrying black flags. Food was also distributed among orphans and the underprivileged while messages of condolence were sent to the members of the General Assembly. 

Additionally, prayers and doa was offered for the salvation of the departed souls of all the members of the family including the Father of the Nation.

Besides, as part of the program, a discussion meeting will also be held on the occasion of National Mourning Day on August 29 at FBCCI Icon Building.
