BD becomes WorldSkills Asia’s 14th member

Eyes to join meet in KL in June; WorldSkills competition in Russia in Aug

Bangladesh has secured the membership of WorldSkills Asia, a platform that aims at attaining excellence in skills in the Asian region. With this, the National Skill Development Authority (NSDA) under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is representing Bangladesh as the 14th member country in the WorldSkills Asia, said a press release.

The WorldSkills Asia earlier offered membership to Bangladesh and the proposal was sent to the PMO for approval. Considering the importance of the issue, PMO on March 18, 2019 gave go ahead for proceeding with the proposal. Following the positive response from Bangladesh, the WorldSkills Asia approved the membership as its 14th member.

Other members of the WorldSkills Asia include China Taipei, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Bahrain, South Korea, Indonesia, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, Palestine, Japan, Brunei, and the Philippines. A general meeting of the member countries of WorldSkills Asia will be held on June 17-19 this year in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Bangladesh has been invited to attend the meeting, the press release said.

The membership certificate would be handed over to Bangladesh during the general meeting in presence of the representatives of all member countries. WorldSkills Asia organizes skills competition in every two years with participation of the contestants from the member countries and the venue is selected among the member countries.

WorldSkills Asia, a non-profit organization as a center in the Asian region for attaining excellence in skills has been working as a global movement through organizing skills competition and enhancing skills. Wordskills Asia is a nonprofit association of member states that promotes excellence in the field of skills and competency development.

By working within the four focus areas – Promoting Skills, Education and Training, International Cooperation and Skills Competitions, Worldskills Asia is be the Asian hub for skills excellence and development in order to raise competency for the Asian nations in overcoming the challenges of 4th industrial revolution. The press release also said that the NSDA is the 79th member of WorldSkills International, a global hub for excellence in skills and development.

Bangladesh is also going to participate at the World Skills Competition 2019 scheduled to be held during August 22-27, 2019 in Kazan, Russia.
