BCL’s free Iftar prog draws admiration

Bangladesh Chhatra League Dhaka University unit has taken an initiative to distribute free Iftar items among university students during the holy month of Ramadan to tame the sufferings, fueled by the price hike in commodities.

Chhatra League, students’ wing of ruling Awami League, has been distributing Iftar among 300 students and pedestrians on daily basis at the university’s Madhur Canteen. 

Chhatra League sources said, this Iftar event cost around 10 to 15 thousand taka per day. DU Chhatra League leader Tanvir Hasn Saikat initiated the programme though it run under the banner of BCL DU unit.

 Students, who break their fast at Madhur Canteen expressed their joy and satisfaction for the programme, saying it brings a sacred feelings and festive mood in braking the day long fast along with friends. 

Rifat Haque, a student of Sir A.F. Rahman hall, said "At this time many of us are facing a bit of trouble in buying iftar every day, as the prices of commodities have increased. It takes Tk40-50 to get Iftar items at the dormitories, which put extra pressure in distressed pocket,” 

He however thanked Bangladesh Chhatra League for organising such event. ‘They deserve appreciation for this." He said. Joynul , a rickshaw puller from Azimpur came to join in this iftar program. He said, "We don’t have the ability to buy Iftar every day. Saikat bhai and Chhatro league is giving us this privilege. I pray for them."

Tanveer Hasan Saikat, general secretary of DU Chhatra League, said, "Many of our students are from lower middle income family. And in this global price hike crisis, we have arranged this for our students. Also many lower income people are joining every day in this Iftar".
