The Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have stood beside the poor farmers and are helping them to cut their ripened Boro paddy free of cost during the current Boro season. Local sources said, Boro paddy harvesting has started in all seven upazilas of Gaibandha district in full swing, as a result, the labor crisis is prevailing in the entire district.
That is why; many of the poor farmers who have no ability to harvest the paddy by hiring labors with high wage are in tension and were passing their days and nights with anxiety about the harvesting of the ripened paddy. In this situation, the members of the BCL, Sadar Upazila unit, stood beside the worried farmers and are helping them in cutting the paddy voluntarily. On Tuesday, a team of students of BCL upazila unit led by its president Raihan Sarker cut the ripened paddy from one bigha of land owned by Abdur Rashid at Schooler Bazar area under Kuptala union of the upazila free of cost.
They also threshed the paddy properly and finally helped the farmer keep the paddy in his storeroom.
After cutting, threshing and storing the paddy, farmer Abdur Rashid expressed his gratefulness to the BCLs activists. BCL upazila unit president Raihan Sarker said they have carried out the order passed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through cutting the paddy of Abdur Rashid.
Similar activity is also going on in other unions of the upazila by the BCL activists, he added. The elite of the district highly lauded the paddy cutting activities by the BCL members free of cost during the full harvest time.
