The Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), on Wednesday paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his portrait at the city’s Dhanmondi marking its 75th founding anniversary.
With the rich tributes to Bangabandhu, the year-long programmes of the BCL, the students’ wing of ruling Awami League, began to celebrate its founding anniversary.
Flanked by the organisation's leaders and activists, BCL President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Walid Asif Enan placed floral wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi road number 32 in the capital.
BCL's Dhaka University unit President Mazharul Kabir Shayan and its General Secretary Tanbir Hasan Shaikat, Dhaka City South unit President Rajibul Islam Bappy and General Secretary Sajal Kundu were present, among others, on the occasion.
To mark the day, national and party flags were hoisted atop all organization offices including its central office at 6.30am.
Besides, a cake was cut at 9:00am at the Curzon Hall on DU campus while winter clothes were distributed among the poor at TSC area on DU premises in the afternoon.
The student organisation was founded on January 4 in 1948 at the instruction of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
During its journey, the Chhatra League has played historical roles at different crucial times of the nation.
Like in Dhaka, the organization also held similar programmes in districts and upazilas. They brought out processions and held discussion meetings as well.
