Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have submitted a memorandum to the authorities of Dhaka University (DU) demanding to meet their three points including withdrawal of development fees for the current academic year as students are passing a critical time financially due to coronavirus pandemic.

They also urged the university authorities to formulate a comprehensive policy regarding the acceptance of development fees.

BCL Dhaka University (DU) unit president Sonjit Chandra Das and General Secretary Saddam Hussain submitted the memorandum to the university Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman at his office on Wednesday. The three-point memorandum includes withdrawal of development fees, formulating complete policy on development fee collection and reducing development fee by 50 per cent from next year till the policy is formulated. A press release issued by BCL Dhaka University unit confirmed it.

BCL DU unit General Secretary and also former AGS of Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) Saddam Hussain said that the development fee is charged separately from each department / institute / faculty on the basis of annual/ semester allowance which is spent in various co-curricular activities and ancillary sectors but the scenario is different this year due to the coronavirus outbreak. So, it is not logical to take development fee this year as arranging co-curricular activities were not possible due to long-term closure of institutions.
