The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) South Zone continues to play a vital role in ensuring law and order, preventing smuggling, drug and human trafficking, illegal trawling, and protecting marine biodiversity across the country’s coastal and maritime areas.
On Sunday, Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque highlighted the force’s achievements. From regular foot patrols and high-speed boat surveillance to quick response teams and diving units, the Coast Guard works to keep the region safe.
Operations against illegal fishing resulted in the seizure of 65 crore metres of banned nets and large quantities of illegal fish worth hundreds of crores. Illegal trawlers, arms, explosives, gold, and drugs were also seized, with many criminals arrested.
In the past six months, they recovered 29 firearms, 27 hand bombs, 43 criminals, and drugs worth over 21 lakh taka. Anti-smuggling drives led to the recovery of illegal shark meat, deer meat, fireworks, and foreign cigarettes.
Efforts also included stopping illegal sand extraction and helping over 1,100 people with free medical camps. In rescue missions, 520 lives were saved.
With 24/7 patrols, awareness campaigns, and ongoing operations, the Coast Guard South Zone remains committed to securing the nation’s maritime areas and supporting the blue economy.
