BCG detains robbers with arms, ammo in Cox’s Bazar

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) detained a most wanted leader of a robber gang and his accomplice from Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday, along with one pistol, one locally made pistol, two magazines, and 22 rounds of ammunition that were stolen from police from Moheshkhali.

The detainee was identified as Ziaur Rahman Zia, 44, the leader of the robber gang, and Mohiuddin, 38.

Media Officer of BCG Headquarters, Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi, confirmed the matter on Thursday morning.

He said, based on intelligence information, it was learned that 4 to 5 notorious and most-wanted armed robbers were hiding in a tin-roofed house in Mohammad Shah Ghona area at ward no. 7 under Kalaramarchhara union in Moheshkhali Upazila of Cox's Bazar. A joint drive was conducted by two elite teams of the Bangladesh Coast Guard Eastern Zone at 5:20am on Thursday, along with the Bangladesh Police. During the operation, the armed robbers attempted to flee upon noticing the presence of the joint forces. The joint forces chased them down and successfully arrested two of the most-wanted robbers, Ziaur Rahman, the leader of the notorious Zia gang, and his accomplice Mohiuddin. 

One foreign pistol, one locally made pistol, two magazines, 22 rounds of ammunition, and one locally made machete were found in their possession at that time.

He also said that process in ongoing to take further legal actions regarding the detained robbers and the seized firearms, ammunition and weapon.
