Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) detained 14 robbers with 3 firearms and a large quantity of local weapons in Hatia upazila of Noakhali.
Media officer of the BCG Headquarters Lt. Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi gave this information through a press release on Monday morning.
He said members of the notorious Fakhrul dacoit gang were involved in robbery, extortion, land grabbing, and various other criminal activities along the Meghna River and nearby islands in Hatia. When the locals sought help from the Coast Guard, the Coast Guard increased its intelligence operations in the area.
On November 23, acting on a tip-off, the BCG South Zone Station in Hatia conducted a special drive near the Baro Aulia market of Noakhali district. During the drive, 14 members of the notorious Fakhrul gang were detained, along with 3 firearms, 13 local weapons, 3 deer antlers, 18 mobile phones, 1 watch, and Tk 48,000 in cash.
The seized evidence and the detained robbers were handed over to the Hatia police station for further legal action, he added.
