Bangladesh Cricket Board is eyeing to review the contracts of their foreign coaches as they are expecting to lose money due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

BCB had earlier stated that unlike some of the other boards, they weren't looking for pay cuts but as the duration of the crisis is getting uncertain, they might have to sit and review the agreement with the coaches, if necessary, when the office resumes.

Due to the pandemic, there is no game or work at the moment. Like most of the employees, the foreign coaching staff of the Bangladesh team is also on indefinite leave. After the Zimbabwe series in early March, the coaches who left for their respective countries are stuck in lockdown and everyone is waiting for the situation to normalize so that they can return and start their work.

Akram Khan, BCB cricket operation chairman, told Cricbuzz on Wednesday that they might have to review the contracts of the coaches if five or six months of revenue is lost.

Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo, pace bowling coach Otis Gibson and physio Julian Calefato are contracted on a yearly basis while the contracts of spin consultant Daniel Vettori, batting coach Neil Mackenzie and fielding coach Ryan Cook are on a day-to-day basis.

Vettori's contract began on October 20 last year (2019) and will run until November 15, 2020, coinciding with this year's Twenty20 World Cup. During this time-frame, Vettori was contracted to work for the BCB for a total of 100 days, receiving USD 2500 per day.

"We might have to review the contracts of the coaches when things get normal because if we lose five to six months, certainly we need to see what can be done to serve the purposes of both parties," said Akram. "Vettori is very expensive so we have to see how things can be done with him as well.

Another BCB official said that Vettori will be paid according to the number of days he worked with Bangladesh.

"We will pay him for the actual number of days he worked. There is no chance to pay more as it will be paid on the basis of the number of days he has worked for us.

Those with whom we are contracted on a daily basis, if the situation gets normal and we need to use them, then we will use them. If not, then we will not use them. The board will decide what will happen to others. We will do what other countries will do," he said.

Domingo's contract runs from August 2019 to August 2021 while Caribbean pace bowling coach Otis Gibson, who joined in January this year, has a contract until January 2022. Physio Julian Calefato, who joined in August last year, has a contract until November 2021 while trainer Nicholas Trevor Lee, who joined the team last March, has a contract until April 2023.
