Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is trying to resolve Test captain Shakib al Hasan’s involvement with a brand affiliated with one of the biggest online gambling portals in the world.

BCB Cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Yunus said the board is discussing the issue with Shakib and the board is not complying with this deal. The board official thinks it might be a mistake and hopes it will be resolved soon.

Betwinner holds a valid online gambling license from the government of Curacao and is under parent company 1X Corp N.V. The company owns many other online betting portals including the most famous one – 1xbet.

“He has been informed that we do not comply with this [the deal]. We told him, he is our player and he will understand that too. No one wants to get involved in such controversial issues. It can be unknowingly or knowingly, there could be a mistake. We are trying to resolve it, hopefully, it will be resolved.” Jalal Yunus said to the media on Monday.

“We strictly show zero tolerance to such betting. His affiliation is seen here that he has an agreement with a subsidiary of a company. We told him that and he knows it. We are trying to resolve as soon as possible,”

Bangladesh’s T20I captaincy is stuck due to Shakib’s controversial contract. BCB wants to resolve it and announce the name. Earlier, the board president said that he should be given a notice. Since then, BCB has started the discussion with Shakib.

“We have been contacted with him several times. As this is an issue, we need to solve it. You will know in a couple of days,” he added.
