Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has released pace bowling coach Charl Langeveldt from his post following request from Cricket South Africa (CSA), a media release from BCB confirmed.

Langeveldt is set to move out from Bangladesh's coaching set-up to take up a role with South Africa. The move follows a request from Cricket South Africa to Bangladesh Cricket Board.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan confirmed about the development.

''Basically South Africa Cricket Board had requested for Langeveldt as they are eyeing to rope him in their coaching set-up,'' said BCB president Nazmul Hasan.

''They are aware that Langeveldt has a contract with us and so decided to request us regarding him because unless we part ways they cannot take him in their coaching set-up,'' he said.

''It is not like Langeveldt informed us anything like he wanted to leave us and go,'' he added.

Earlier yesterday, BCB cricket operations committee Chairman Akram Khan had told The Daily Star that the South African ‘communicated that he does not want to continue because he has a good opportunity at home [in South Africa] and wants to work there. He has an offer from the South Africa national team.’.

The former South African pacer was appointed on a two-year deal as the pace bowling coach on July 27 this year after the end of the World Cup. He replaced Courtney Walsh, whose contract ended with the World Cup in England this summer.

In his short time as the pace bowling coach, the 45-year-old oversaw the pacers in the home Test against Afghanistan, the home T20I tri-series against Zimbabwe and Afghanistan and the tour of India, which consisted of three T20Is and a two-Test series.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that the BCB understood the reason behind Langeveldt wanting to leave his current post. “I can confirm that we received a formal request for his release. We value our strong cricketing relationship with CSA. We have also taken into consideration that he was a South African international cricketer and we understand his reasons for wanting to work with his own team. The Board has decided to release him with immediate effect,” the BCB CEO was quoted as saying in the media release. Earlier, BCB announced that they have appointed the former South African pace bowler for two years. With Cricket South Africa making a huge overhaul in their coaching set-up in recent times that included the appointment of Mark Boucher as South Africa's men's team coach, this move comes as another step in the process.

Bangladesh appointed Langeveldt as the national team's new fast bowling coach in July replacing West Indian Courtney Walsh following the ICC World Cup in England.

The former wicketkeeper-batter has been contracted until after the 2023 World Cup.

Enoch Nkwe, who took the team to India in October as interim team director, was named assistant coach, with former selection convener Linda Zondi returning as an independent member of a panel that will also feature captain Faf du Plessis, Boucher and Nkwe.

Jacques Kallis has been appointed as South Africa's batting consultant, joining head coach Mark Boucher as part of his support staff. Charl Langeveldt has also been confirmed as the bowling consultant.

Langeveldt was released by the BCB following a request from Cricket South Africa (CSA), the board confirmed on Wednesday (December 18).

"I can confirm that we have received a formal request for his release. We value our strong cricketing relationship with CSA. We have also taken into consideration that he was a South African international cricketer and we understand his reasons for wanting to work with his own team. The Board has decided to release him with immediate effect," BCB CEO, Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said.

The appointments will be part of sweeping change at CSA in the wake of months of faltering administration. Graeme Smith was named acting director of cricket on Saturday, when Boucher was unveiled as coach.

South Africa start four-match Test series against England in Centurion on December 26. They have picked six uncapped players for the first two Tests as they aim to bring the focus back on on-field action.
