The Bangladesh Cricket Board refused an invitation from Cricket Ireland to play a four-nation Twenty20 tournament in December, BCB officials confirmed to Cricbuzz on Friday. The offer was made since Bangladesh's tour of Sri Lanka got postponed.

BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan said that they have declined the invitation since they are planning to start domestic cricket from December.

As a result, BCB opted not to play the T20 tournament that will be staged in UAE comprising Ireland, Scotland and another associate nation that is yet to be named.

"We declined an offer from Ireland to play a T20 series in December,'' Akram told Cricbuzz on Friday. ''They are expecting to play the T20 series in UAE with Scotland and another associate nation that is yet to be confirmed and offered us to be the fourth team in the competition but we refused as we are looking forward to resume domestic cricket," he said.

"We have a home series against West Indies in January and so we want to prepare for the series by playing domestic cricket," he further added.

Since March there has been no competitive cricket in the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Dhaka Premier League, the country's traditional 50-over club tournament that is considered to be the major source of income for majority of cricketers, came to an abrupt halt earlier this year.

Even though the BCB is yet to finalize their plans on the resumption of domestic cricket, there is a possibility of staging a corporate league as the DPL involves lot of players who cannot be managed by the board during Covid times.
