BCB conducts players’ Covid-19 test

The Bangladesh national team cricketers’ underwent Covid-19 tests yesterday. The test was conducted by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as part of their coronavirus management plan to ensure cricketers safety.

The players who underwent corona test were optimistic and hoped that their test results would come back negative. They also hoped that they will be able to continue regular cricketing activities as planned by the board.

After providing his sample test, left handed batsman Soumya Sarkar wrote on Facebook: “Test done, hopefully the result will be negative.”

Wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim, who was one of the first to industriously begin training amid the pandemic, wrote on Facebook: “New experience. Pray for us.” Left arm pacer Mustafizur Rahim also underwent corona test. 

After a long break, due to corona pandemic, the players recently started taking part in individual training sessions. The Tigers are scheduled to depart for Sri Lanka. The date is not yet fixed but September 23rd can be heard as a tentative date for Tigers departure. The individual training sessions had to be put on hold after several members of the team's support staff showed coronavirus-like symptoms.

A total of 17 players and seven support staff gave their sample on Monday, as BCB started collecting the sample for COVID-19. The first phase of the corona test of the cricketers will end on Tuesday. 

The cricketers later will undergo a test twice, before the short conditioning camp in Bangladesh for Sri Lanka tour and before boarding flight for Sri Lanka.
