BCB calls emergency meeting on Tamim issue

Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal suddenly called a press conference and announced his international retirement on Thursday. The country's best opener ended his international career after playing the first ODI against Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has called an emergency meeting on Thursday at 10 pm to take the next decision on the Tamim issue.

Tamim's sudden departure was a big blow to Bangladesh cricket. Because the team management of Bangladesh planned this year's Asia Cup and World Cup with Tamim as the captain.

But Tamim's retirement leaves BCB management to fill up the captaincy spot in the ongoing Afghanistan series and ahead of the World Cup 2023 which is three months away.

Tamim was the regular captain for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. The post of captain is now vacant due to sudden retirement. Since Litton Das is Tamim's deputy in this series, the board will trust Litton as the vice-captain.

According to media reports, Tamim was requested by BCB not to retire now. It was advised to rest and prepare for the World Cup by playing the series against Afghanistan but Tamim was steadfast in his decision.
