BCB announces women’s squad for T20 Asia Cup

Jahanara Alam is one among three players who have made their way back into the Bangladesh squad for the 2022 Women's T20 Asia Cup that begins next month in Sylhet. Fargana Hoque and Fariha Trisna have also been drafted into the squad that won the Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

Fast bowler Jahanara had missed the qualifiers due to a hand injury. She played one warm-up game against UAE, where she did not bat or bowl, and subsequently returned to Bangladesh. She is back in the fold and so is batter Fargana, now that she has recovered from Covid-19.

There was, however, no place in the main squad for Sharmin Akhter and Marufa Akter, who made the senior women's team for the first time in Abu Dhabi. Both of them do find a place as one of the four standby players that also includes Nuzhat Tasnia and Rabeya Khan. Nigar Sultana continues to lead the side.

Bangladesh booked their place in the 2023 Women's T20 World Cup by going unbeaten in the qualifying competition. A win over Thailand brought them that success and they will face the same opponents to kick off their Asia Cup campaign on October 1. Bangladesh go in as defending champions after their last-ball win in the final in Kuala Lumpur in 2018, when they broke India's streak of six consecutive titles since 2004.
