Bangladesh Bank has directed banks to continue uninterrupted banking services during the ongoing lockdown the government has imposed on the movement of people from 6 am on July 1 to midnight on July 8 to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
In its directives, the central bank has instructed banks to keep adequate money at their ATM booths and allow clients withdraw Taka one lakh a day from the booth, according to a circular of BB's Payment Systems Department.
Banks, MFS and all types of financial service providers have been asked to make urgent plans to keep the service running in special circumstances, said BB, adding that banks, PSO and MFS will keep their respective systems, distribution and agent channels uninterrupted and operational as per the urgent considerations during the restrictions.
"You have to ensure uninterrupted delivery of cash and e-money (where applicable) from the Bank's cash counters, ATMs, Agent Banking and Mobile Financial Service Providers (MFS) as per customers’ demand," it said.
Banks providing online banking transactions will keep this service uninterrupted for the convenience of 24-hour customer transactions.
The central bank has taken steps for Internet Banking Fund Transfer (IBFT) transactions through National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB) to motivate the public to transact electronically during the restriction.
The maximum limit of a single transaction in the case of an individual will be Tk 3.0 lakh. In the case of an organization, the maximum limit of a single transaction is Tk 5.0 lakh and it can make transaction Tk 25 lakh in maximum 20 transactions per day.
