General students of the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Wednesday held a long march boycotting from class-exams to fulfill their nine-point demand. They alleged that university administration is showing negligence about the death of a foreign student.
Students from various departments joins the long march that began at about 11:00 am. During this time, the students discontinued the ongoing class-exams of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry faculty. Later, the protesters marched to university health care center and spoke on health care irregularities.
Sources said, a second-year foreign student of the Veterinary Science Faculty Harani Janaki Raman died in Mymensingh Medical College Hospital due to asphyxia on Friday.
Students alleged that, ‘Raman was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital by auto-bike as the ambulance was not available on that time. We will not quit the movement with any assurance like past. The administration has to give a written document specifying the exact date of implementation. Until the demands are implemented, all types of class-exams abstention will continue.’
On investigation, reporter found the ambulance was busy to carrying another patient.
Meanwhile, university Vice-Chancellor made a probe committee of five members chaired by Pro-VC Prof Dr Jasimuddin Khan on the incident. He has been asked to submit the report by Thursday.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Lutful Hassan said, ‘Students logical demands will be implemented. I am sincere in this regard. Everything has to be done according to the rules of the university.’
