Batting collapse scripts Tigers' defeat in Tri-series opener

Published : 08 Oct 2022 12:43 AM

Bangladesh started the Tri-nation tournament with a 21 runs defeat to Pakistan in their first match on Friday.

Held at the Hagley Oval Christchurch, Tigers winning the coin favoure sent Pakistan into bat first under a chilly condition and looked to have made the better start with god bowling from Taskin but could not restrict Pakistan cheaply, as later the bowlers were just run of the mill Pakistan set target of 168 for Bangladesh to win.

As win or loss are not important issues, only to get better the batters and bowlers perfection and to adjust with the condition similar to coming World Cup venues in Australia, it’s a reasonable result. When the tri-series decorated as only a prepare event for an upcoming and more important event ICC T-20 Cricket World Cup .

However, Tigers’ players looked at their as usual characters, specially the batters role were not at all pleasing but only Yasir Ali was only exceptional when the late order batter played an ideal T-20 innings smashing an unbeaten 42 off 21 balls.

In fact, after the initial disaster it looked that the Tigers’ batters going to fight almost evenly chasing the target, suddenly they crumbled losing four wickets for 12 runs off 14 balls, at that stage Bangladesh were 84 for two and Pakistan had been 91 for one.

It was a same feature of the opening pair, which is actually a great concern of the Bangladesh batting line up, as usual they departed after scoring only 25 runs.

So the team officials have already had real picture of the batters, as they three more match in hands, will have time to put them to play on right ways.

Bangladesh, bowlers also failed to break down the opening pair of Pakistan shortly as Babar and Rezwan scored a 52 runs partnership playing 7.1overs before departed.

Apart from Muztafizur Rahman and Hassan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed, Nasum Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were very much reasonable.

Taskin Taskin so far the performed well for Bangladesh when he was handed the ball in all three phases of the innings, opening the bowling and giving away just one in the first over, while keeping Rizwan and Babar to just seven in the fifth.

Taskin picked up two wickets for 25 runs in four overs, Nasum took one wicket for 22, Mehidy Miraz had one wicket for 12 runs in his two overs spell.

But Muztafizur Rahman and Hassan Mahmud, the pace pair supposed to make up the frontline bowling attack, frustrated all conceding 90 runs (48 and 42 respectively) for only one wicket.

Specially, it was too much disappointing with ordinary bowling from Mustafizur Rahman as he failed to bowl at his class, was expected from him but he did not get even a wicket.

However, apart from Muztafiz and Hassan Mahmud it can be considered that the bowlers so far played their role well when the batters would have to improve a much.              .

In all respect the findings of the first match, are that batters would have to work to restore and reassemble their performance.
