Theatre troupe Batighor brought to the stage its new production titled Bhogoban Paliye Gechhe at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Thursday and staged the play’s second show on Friday.

Bhogoban Paliye Gechhe, the 16th production of Batighor, has been written and directed by the troupe’s founder and president Sanjoy Sarker Muktonil.

Depicting the conflict between the self and the individual and the philosophical exploration of the self, the play highlights that the power of the human mind is limitless. People can raise questions about their faith using their minds or they can ignore it and gradually sink into darkness.

The play also depicts that the object of faith changes from time to time but dimensions of faith do not change and vested quarters exploit helpless and weak people who blindly follow faith. These greedy, selfish, opportunistic people deceive the common people and keep them in the darkness by misleading them in the name of faith.

Saddam Rahman played the character of Priest while Foisal Mahmud played Kalu, Sanju Goswami played Pecha, Nusrat Imam Bulty played Pechi, Yasir Arafat played Monohor, Sweety Hore played Maduli, Sumon Shoron played Ibrahim Gazi, Mridha Ayomee played Romija, Ahsanullah Riaz played Shubol, Raju Ahmed played Hajra, Fiona Ferdowsi played Little Romija, Ferdowsi Akter played Hujurain, Rudro Rokon played Dhiren, Sanjay Halder played Dokhho, Yasin Haider  Fahim played Brahma and Shadab Hashmi played Businessman in the play.

Besides, Shaibal, Shudarshan, Shoron, Sanjay, Shaon, Ayomee, Ferdowsi, Maya, Bindi and others played different characters in the play.

Sanjoy Sarker Muktonil said  that the word Bhogoban was used metaphorically in the play.

‘The name of the play Bhogoban has fled does not literally mean that god has fled. It depicts the conflict between the self and the individual. We are gradually losing our self, humanity and also our conscience today,’ said Sanjoy Sarker Muktonil.

‘When life was suddenly turned upside down by the COVID-19 crisis, people realised more and more how weak and helpless they are. At that time, we witnessed various changes in people’s perception of faith and doubt,’ said Sanjoy Sarker Muktonil, adding that he was inspired during the COVID-19 crisis to write the play.

Batighor brought Bhogoban Paliye Geche to the stage marking 12 years founding anniversary of the troupe.

Founded in 2012, the troupe has garnered a huge response from the audience for its productions, namely Monkey Trial, Himur Kolpito Diary, Radcliffe Line, Urnajaal, Olikhito Upakhyan and others.
