Bashundhara Kings into Fed Cup semis

Bashundhara Kings progressed to the Federation Cup semi-final after beating Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited 2-0 in the third quarter-final at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Sunday, agencies report.

The Kings will now take on the winner of the fourth quarter-final between 11-time champion Abahani Limited and Uttar Baridhara Club, who take on each other Monday at the same venue.

In the first semi-final, Chittagong Abahani Limited will lock horns with Saif Sporting Club Wednesday, while the second semi will be held a day later, with the final taking place Sunday.

The Kings went ahead in the 10th minute when Chilean forward of Argentine origin, Raul Oscar Beccera placed home after good work down the right flank from Jonathan De Silveira Fernandez, who laid the ball on a platter for Raul from a Bishwanath Ghosh through pass.

2015 edition champion Sheikh Jamal tried in vain to get the equalizer right till the end of the game, while the Kings were unable to double their lead, not until the 89th minute when Fernandez was fouled by Sheikh Jamal goalkeeper Mamun Khan; Brazilian forward Robson De Silva Robinho stroking home the spot kick.
