Published : 15 Mar 2022 09:40 PM

Reigning champions Bashundhara Kings and title contenders Abahani Limited will face their respective vital encounter today when two matches of the TVS Bangladesh Premier League football will take place at different venues.

Bashundhara Kings, who are leading the points table, will vie to remain on top when they will host Saif Sporting Club at their home venue at the Bashundhara Sports Complex.

On the other hands, Abahani Limited will play their crucial match at the away ground with taking on Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at the Bir Sreshtha Flight Lt. Maitur Rahman Stadium, Munshiganj.

Banshundhara Kings, who are in a good position obtaining 21 points, four ahead to closest contenders Abahani Limited after eighth round, if could win the today’s match have chance to finish the first leg remaining on top.

Kings have all win record against Saif Sporting in the both legs of the league in the previous season, in the first leg they (Kings) won by 2-1 and blanked by 3-0 in the second leg.

Bashundhara Kings, apart from their upsetting 1-2 defeat in the opener of the ongoing league against the newcomers Swadhiota KS, continued their unbeaten run with winning seven matches in a row.

Abahani Limited, who tipped off to regain the title with winning the season’s opener Independence Cup and the Federation Cup trophy, vying to regain the league title have been struggling much with trailing by four points to the table toppers Banshundhara Kings.

Abahani, out of their previous seven matches suffered one defeat and drew two matches to earn 17 points from eight outings to stand on second position but the today’s opponents Sheikh Jamal are closely following them with 16 points.

Abahani are going to play the important match against Jamal DC following their slender 2-1 win against Saif Sporting after coming back from a 0-1 down.

Last time in both legs of the league Abahani could not win against Jamal when they shared points after 2-2 draw in both the encounters.

Abahani head coach Mario Lemos’s men need to keep the winning run, if they are to keep their hopes alive to regain the title.

Despite on March 1 disappointing loss at Shaheed Dhirendranath Stadium, Cumilla, Doirelton and Colindres inspired them to victory against Saif Sporting in the previous match and the today’s squad against Jamal might be picked up as the head coach Mario Lemos seems to know his best side.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Jamal, the reigning runners up have also chance to go on second position if could win the match and will not left any space for Abahani unchallenged.

So Sheikh Jamal DC, who are only team left unbeaten until eighth round, also badly need full three points against Abahani after four wins and as many draws.
