Bashundhara Group, one of the leading business conglomerates in the country, yesterday expressed interest to provide land to build a Chinatown in Dhaka. Sayem Sobhan Anvir, managing director of Bashundhara Group, made the proposal during a views exchange meeting with Chinese envoy in Dhaka, Li Jiming, at the conference room of English newspaper the Daily Sun in the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area.

Anvir said that if China shows interest, building a Chinatown in Dhaka is possible and Banshundhara Group is ready to provide the land. Appreciating the move, Li Jiming assured Anvir that China would consider the proposal. Anvir drew the Chinese envoy’s attention on setting up a bank in Bangladesh.

“Trade volume between Bangladesh and China as well as Chinese investment in the country is huge. Setting up a Chinese bank would boost bilateral trade and commerce and foster investment in Bangladesh,” he said. Mentioning no barrier to establishing a Chinese bank in Bangladesh, Li Jiming assured the Bashundhara MD of necessary initiatives in this regard.

Anvir also proposed to name a road after China Street in the Bashundhara RA, in which Li Jiming satisfactorily agreed. The Chinese envoy also visited the media outlets owned by the East West Media Group in Bashundhara RA.
