‘Bashir Ahmed Award’ presented

Homaira Bashir and Raja Bashir are two successors to the late musician Bashir Ahmed. Last November 17, for the first time Bashir Ahmed Award was presented to celebrate his 80th birth anniversary. This was held at the Shilpakala Academy in the capital for the first time.

To spread his love for music Bashir Ahmed’s two children launched ‘Bashir Ahmed Award 2019’ this year. 

At 7pm, the ceremony began with the recitation from the Quran. Ekushey Padak winning lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar, music director Azad Rahman, music director Khurshid Alam, music director Sheikh Saadi Khan, music director Sheikh Saadi Khan, Bashir Ahmed and others commemorated Bashir Ahmed and his contributions. 

The speakers, in their discussions, thoroughly elaborated on Bashir Ahmed’s enormous contribution to Bangladesh’s music. At one stage of the discussion, the audience enjoyed the song ‘Tomar Upoma Tumi’ by Kanak Chapa, Homaira and Raja in Bashir Ahmed’s tune. Soon after the song, Kanak Chapa came up on stage and recollected her memories of her guru. 

Immediately after this, the audience enjoyed the song of Homaira and Raja titled ‘Papa’ written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar. Those who received ‘Bashir Ahmed Award 2019’ for the first time were Ferdousi Rahman, Sheikh Saadi Khan, Shahidullah Faraizi, Mustafa Kamal Syed, Nasir Ahmed and Chandan Dutt. Ferdousi Rahman was presented the life time award.

Upon receiving this award she said, “I have received many awards in my life. But for the first time, I was honored with the name of a great musician. I like it very much. The father of Homaira and Raja, Bashir Ahmed deserves much appreciation. We can also hope that our children will take the initiative to keep our memories alive like this.”

Notable, yesterday was Bashir Ahmed’s 80th birthday.
