On the occasion of Barisal University’s completion of the first decade of educating students, our Barisal University Correspondent Wabidur Rahman tried to know teachers’ opinions about and expectations from the institution.

The people of South Bengal have been dreaming of a full-fledged university for a long time. The beginning of that dream, of course, in 1973. The father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman announced the establishment of a public university in Barishal. To make Bangabandhu's declaration a reality, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of Barishal University in Karnakathi, Barisal on 22 February 2011. Today, Barishal University is about to enter its first phase.
My first goal in education and research is to make Barishal University a world class research based university. Despite the Covid-19 epidemic, we are advancing the use of technology in education, co-education, research and spreading the spirit of Bangabandhu and Liberation War among the younger generation. We must all remember that we are now going through the Fourth Industrial Revolution.. In the meantime, emphasis is being laid on signing MoUs with various reputed research institutes to take the research work of the university forward. In order to take this relatively new university forward, the cooperation of all including students, teachers, officials and employees is required and also the patronage of the government is required.

Bangabandhu's name is closely associated with the history of the establishment of Barishal University. At a public meeting in 1973, Bangabandhu announced the establishment of a university in Barishal. Barishal was established in 2011 in its continuation. Today, Barishal University has entered an era. Although Barishal University is a new university of the country, there are many achievements and successes in the first era of its establishment. In 1st era, Barishal University has developed its own culture. We are always trying to enhance the reputation and prestige of the university in the national and international arena. Besides, I am always trying to keep the environment of the university high in knowledge practice and research. Teachers and students of Barishal University are gradually improving in education and research. In this way Barishal University can be made a dignified position in the international rankings. Barishal University is playing a significant role in the field of co-education and socio-cultural as well as education. Despite various limitations, Barishal University, the highest educational institution in South Bengal, is slowly spreading the light of education.

The University of Barishal is a one-of-a-kind educational institution that strives to make a positive impact on Bangladesh's social, political, and economic sectors. Now Barishal University celebrates its 12th birthday. The real purpose of this university is to spread knowledge by safeguarding democratic rights and allowing all and sundry to specific their reviews. I wish the university does now not end up an enterprise employer. On at the moment, I would no longer expect, teachers and students to pursue power at the price of knowledge practice. The campus will thereafter come to be a garden of mastering, culture, and free intellect practice.

Barishal University has completed its 11th year and entered 12th year. Leader of the people Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Barishal University in 2011. In the 11 years of its establishment, Barishal University is shining its name. A group of meritorious teachers of Barisal University are relentlessly carrying out academic activities. In addition to academic activities, they are fulfilling their administrative responsibilities properly. At present Barisal University has achieved infrastructural development. Barishal University teachers are moving forward with talent and hard work. I also hope that the students of Barishal University will brighten the name of the university when they enter the job after finishing their studies here. In this way, one day Barishal University will stand with its head high in the chest of the world.

Barishal University was established in 2011 by Hon'ble Prime Minister. Since then, 22 February 2022 is going to enter the era. As a new university, there were many kinds of limitations, all kinds of adversities, problems. Beyond that, a bunch of talented young teachers working at Barisal University are taking Barishal University forward through their dedicated efforts. Our students will go to a much better place and will represent our Barishal University.
I believe that soon Barishal University will be one of the few reputed universities in Bangladesh.

The official journey of Barishal University started through laying the foundation stone on 22nd February, 2011. The Barishal University (Amendment) Act was passed earlier in 2010. The people of Barishal, who are always awake, played an important role in the field of education nationally before and after independence, but the lack of a university has affected everyone. In 1973, in a speech at the then Bell's Park, Barishal, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared that if there was any other public university outside Dhaka, it would be in Barishal. Due to the political upheaval in 1975, Bangabandhu's dream did not come true for a long time.
Finally, the long-cherished dream came true with the help of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Today, Barishal University is the beacon of the south. Initially started with only six departments and 400 students, the university now has 24 departments and more than 6,000 students and 189 teachers.
Starting its journey on the college campus of BarishalZilla School, Barishal University stands on its own campus in the midst of captivating greenery with its head held high. In the meantime, our students have taken their place in various important government and non-government institutions including public universities, BCS, judiciary, banks.
I wish in the future Barishal University will take the first place in the national and international rankings in terms of research and quality.
