Barishal sit-in seeks healthcare reforms, end to irregularities

UNB, Barishal: A group of people staged a sit-in in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall on Tuesday, demanding nationwide healthcare reforms and an end to irregularities at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

The protestors, led by Mohiuddin Ronny, who is well-known for his bold stance against mismanagement and irregularities in the Bangladesh Railways, began the programme around 11 am and continued till 12pm.

Ronny announced a three-point demand, calling for infrastructural development and skilled manpower recruitment in all government hospitals, modern equipment and medicine supply and ensure quality treatment for all.

He also urged the Health Ministry to curb corruption through enhanced administrative capacity, ban partisan politics among doctors, implement digital automation and form a transparent task force.

The protesters demanded that the Health Sector Reform Commission take public suffering into account and recommend urgent action after thorough investigation.

Speakers Sulaima Jannat Sifa and Hossain Al Suhan addressed the event.
