Barishal holds two-day Nazrul fest

A two-day Nazrul festival featuring music show and workshop was held in Barishal city on Friday and Saturday.

The day-long workshop was held at Shikkhok Bhavan auditorium of the city Friday September 13 and ending ceremony held with discussion on life and achievements of the poet and performing songs written by him at Ashwini Kumar Hall of the city on Saturday night.

The program was organized by Bangladesh Nazrul Sangeet Sangstha (BNSS) Dhaka and supported by Nazrul Sangskritik Jote, Barishal (NSJB) to spread original compositions and propagate the thematic aspects of Nazrul songs.

The closing ceremony of the program held at Barishal Ashwini Kumar Hall of the city on Saturday afternoon and ended at late night with discussion meeting, cultural function.

In 1921, Nazrul published his seminal poem titled "Bidrohi" (The Rebel). The poem immediately established his identity as a countercultural maestro of impassioned verses. His revolutionary songs played an important role during the Liberation War.

Nazrul's rebel songs have served as a significant source of inspiration for people who fight for justice, and continue to inspire youths today. His songs have been remixed and rearranged by different bands and musicians over the years, the discussants opined.

Nazrul Sangskritik Jote, Barishal president Shanti Das presided over the closing ceremony. Deputy Commissioner of Barishal S M Ajiar Rahman was present as the chief guest while general secretary of BNSS Khairul Anam Shakil and director, secondary and higher secondary education Barishal office Professor Moazzem Hossain were present as special guests at the event.
