“The Banshkhali incident was originally a premeditated plan of an insidious group,” said ABM Azad, Chattogram divisional commissioner.
He said they had used ordinary workers as shields to obstruct the government's development activities. Even after accepting all the demands of the workers, they provoked the workers and engaged them in clashes.
He said this while handing over cheques of financial assistance to the families of the workers dead and injured in the Banshkhali clash in Chattogram at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room on Thursday noon.
Bangladesh Workers Welfare Foundation under the Ministry of Labor and Employment handed over a check of Tk 2 lakh to each family of the workers dead and Tk 50,000 to the families of the injured workers.
The divisional commissioner said, "After the incident, our deputy commissioner, DIG went there and talked to the workers and brought the situation under control." At present the workers there are working peacefully.
He added that the government was providing financial assistance to the families of the workers killed and injured in the accident at Banshkhali.
Banshkhali MP MostafizurRahnan said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has worked to ensure 100% electricity in the country since the formation of the government. The work of power plant started in Banshkhali. But one quarter was wary of creating conflict from the beginning to hinder this development. And they heated up the ordinary workers from that plan and caused clashes.
He added that the families of those killed and injured in the incident are being given financial assistance today. This means that the Sheikh Hasina government is always by the side of the common man.
