Rabindra Sangeet singer Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya has been infected with the coronavirus. Bannya said the infection was detected through a sample test 12 days ago.

The renowned artiste also said that she is taking treatment at home as per the advice of the doctor.

Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya told Bangladesh Post, “I am in good physical condition. I have been at home since the report came positive. Everyone pray for me so that I can recover and return to normal life.”

The musician said samples would be taken for the second time today, Tuesday, for testing. She hopes that this time the report will be negative.

Although Bannya, chairperson of the dance department of Dhaka University, is famous for her Rabindra Sangeet at home and abroad, she has also sung Dhrupadi, Tappa and Kirtan.

Born in Rangpur district on 13 January 1957, Bannya studied first at Chhayanaut and later at Visva-Bharati University in India. There she came in contact with musicians like Shantidev Ghosh, Kanika Banerjee, Nilima Sen and Ashish Banerjee.

Bannya, the founder of the music education institute ‘Surer Dhara’, has also written several books on Rabindra Sangeet. Bannya received Bangladesh’s highest civilian award, the Swadhinata Puraskar, in 2016 for her contribution in music.

Apart from this, the artiste has been awarded various honors including ‘Bangabhushan’ and ‘Firoza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’ of the West Bengal State Government.
