The government of independent Bangladesh in its first decision, had banned Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, which not only opposed the country’s independence but also actively helped Pakistani occupation forces to commit genocide and other war crimes. However, BNP founder and military dictator Ziaur Rahman started politics of killing through the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975.
General Zia had awarded the killers of Bangabandhu and rehabilitated them in politics. The banned Jamaat-e-Islami was also allowed to resume political activities during the rule of military dictator Zia. Last year the Appellate Division dismissed the Jamaat’s appeal against the High Court order that declared the registration of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami illegal. Jamaat was founded by controversial Islamist thinker Sayyid Abul A’la Maududi in undivided India under the British colonial regime in 1941. The EC scrapped its registration on October 28 in 2018, leaving it unable to contest the general elections.
The High Court on August 1, 2013, declared illegal the Jamaat’s registration with the EC. The EC cancelled the registration of the religion-based party the same year.
Jamaat was a religion-based political party and it did not believe in the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh. Although the EC cancelled the registration of Jamaat, the government has not yet banned the party.
The government is going to
ban Jamaat-e-Islami by
today (Wednesday) through
an executive order
Jamaat is now staying behind the scenes and away from joint programmes with BNP as both the opposition parties have already declared that they are not in alliance but they are carrying out killing and destruction together against the current Awami League government and the country’s people, development and sovereignty.
The government is going to ban Jamaat-e-Islami by today (Wednesday) through an executive order. For the sake of national interest, the leaders of the Awami League-led 14-party on Monday unanimously agreed to ban the politics of Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir in a bid to eradicate the activities of the anti-state elements. When the ruling Awami League develops the country for the people, BNP-Jamaat-Shibir unleash arson attacks to destroy the achievement of the country.
We hail the government’s decision to ban the politics of Jamaat-Shibir. If the politics of a terrorist and communal party is banned it will enable the worried general people to heave a sigh of relief. We think Jamaat has no right to do politics in Bangladesh as they still burn people and kill people as they did in 1971.
We believe the politics of a political party should be just for the welfare of people, but BNP-Jamaat’s politics is to burn people. Do the people want them? No, people never want the killers. We strongly condemn the acts of BNP-Jamaat for killing and burning people.
BNP-Jamaat launched destructive activities in the country using students as shields. BNP-Jamaat targeted isolating Dhaka city from the rest of the country snapping communication networks. BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman ordered BNP-Jamaat to kill people and carry out destructive activities across the country.
They (BNP-Jamaat) are carrying out terror activities for achieving ill political motives, although the government has fulfilled all the demands of students. BNP-Jamaat-Shibir unleashed a reign of terror killing and injuring people in arson terrorism from 2013 to 2015 in the name of the movement. They are still involved in hatching a conspiracy to make the country a failed state by creating anarchy.
BNP-Jamaat’s terrorists carried out planned attacks at different major establishments including BTV and metro rail. Every culprit must be brought to justice and the government is determined to restore peace and law and order. The government must bring all culprits to book. Countrymen will have to remain alert against subversive activities of BNP-Jamaat and their cohorts. Anti-liberation forces are posing a threat under the leadership of the BNP and Jamaat. They are trying to re-establish Pakistani ideology in this country. We must continue our fight against them. Our nation, which is confident and strong imbued with the spirit of 1971 Liberation War, can never be defeated.
