Bank defaulters won’t be allowed to be contest FBCCI poll: BB

The central bank has categorically said that those who will be identified as bank defaulters, would not be allowed to be candidate in the upcoming election of the country's apex trade body, the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI). 

The recently passed bank company act-2023 (Amended) has also some guidelines in this regard.  

Sources said after the declaration of Bangladesh Bank, the bank defaulters will not be given trade license or registration of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) and Registrer of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC). Even the willful defaulters will be barred from taking part in any election.

Meanwhile sources said that the candidature of  some businessmen in the upcoming FBCCI election has become uncertain because of bank default. The FBCCI Election Board has already cancelled nominations of some candidates including Md. Khorshed Alam, Md. Shahab Uddin, Khondoker Ruhul Amin, Abul Hossain, KM Akhterujjaman, Md. Ali Hossain, Mohammad Read Ali and Md. Foyzur Rahman Bhuiyan. 

FBCCI Election Appeal Board Chairman Jahangir Alamin said as per the law there have no chance of taking part in the election if someone identified as loan defaulter or tax defaulter. 

The Appeal Board will inform its final decision on July 15 after the hearing.
