Bangladeshi students displayed ‘excellence’ on Saturday in the 11th Japanese speech contest in Dhaka. This year, 15 Japanese-language learners out of 49 applicants ‘impressed’ the audience with their ‘rich expression and fluency’, the Japan embassy said.

This speech contest is annually co-hosted by the Embassy of Japan, Japanese Universities Alumni Association of Bangladesh (JUAAB) and Japan Foundation. Among the 15 final contestants, Md Mohi Uddin in the Intermediate category with the speech titled ‘What I learned from studying Japanese Language’ got the biggest applause from the 4 Japanese Judges and won the first prize.

Sanjida Tasnim Bithy also delivered a splendid speech “Story of my Love” and was awarded the first position in the Beginner’s category. The two top winners also won the privilege to participate in the one-week study tour in Japan hosted by the government of Japan later this fiscal year.

This year’s contest was sponsored by Japanese companies and organisations operating in Bangladesh; Japan Commerce & Industry Association in Dhaka, Japanese Restaurant Nagasaki, Nissenken, Grameen UNIQLO and Rohto-Mentholatum (Bangladesh) Limited.
