Sheikh Rifayet Daiyan Srijon, a Bangladeshi computer scientist based in the United States, has secured $750,000 in funding for artificial intelligence (AI) research and development.

Srijan, a 2023 graduate of Stanford University, moved to the US in 2018 for higher education. He is the only child of prominent badminton players Engineer Sheikh Abul Hashem and Quamrun Nahar Dana, who have both won national honours and numerous badminton titles. Srijan attended St. Joseph's School in Bangladesh before pursuing his studies abroad.

After graduating, Srijan, along with his Stanford peers Sophia He and Zhizhuo Zhi, both from China, aimed to create a company focused on AI technology. Their work includes developing advanced tools for creating AI-generated comic series, photos, and animation videos. This new approach represents a significant evolution in AI technology.

Their innovative project initially received $750,000 in funding from Andreessen Horowitz, a major US venture capital firm known for its early investments in Facebook and Instagram.

Srijan views AI as crucial technology for the future and highlights the intense competition between the U.S. and China in this field. He encourages Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to seize opportunities in the U.S. AI sector, noting that new innovations and projects can attract substantial funding.

Born and raised in Dhaka, Srijan is one of two siblings. His family hails from Khulna, and he currently resides in California. In addition to his scientific achievements, Srijan is an accomplished international debater, having participated in debate competitions in both Bangladesh and the US.
