Bangladesh has finally entered the official selection of Cannes film Festival, the most prestigious event in world of cinema. Director Abdullah Mohammad Saad's second feature film titled ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ is the first Bangladeshi film to have been officially selected selected in the 74th Cannes Film Festival.
Azmeri Haque Badhon has played the lead role in the film along with Afia Hahin Jaima, Afia tabassum Borno, Kazi Sami Hossain, Yasir Al Haq, Saberi Alam, Abrodit Chowhdury and others.
Badhon had been dreaming about the film for almost three years. The implementation of which started on Thursday (June 3) with the official announcement of the Cannes Festival Authority.
Regarding this content Badhon said, 'Today we got the results of our hard work and waiting. We are proud to be able to add the name Bangladesh to the official selection of this festival. All our troubles are worth it.'
Meanwhile, director of the film Abdullah Mohammad Saad has made his mark in 2016 with the film 'Live from Dhaka'. ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ is his second feature film.
Story of the film is centered on 'Rehana Maryam Noor', a teacher in a private medical college. Where Rehana lives a complex life as a mother, daughter, sister and teacher. One evening while leaving the college, Rehana witnessed an unexpected event.
From then on, she started protesting against the incident by speaking out against a fellow teacher on behalf of a student and gradually became stubborn. But at the same time, his 8-year-old daughter was accused of misbehaving at school. In such a situation, Rehana continued to seek justice for the student and her child from outside the so-called rules.
The film is produced by Singaporean producer Jeremy Chua, executive producer Ehsanul Haque Babu and co-produced by Rajib Mahajan, Adnan Habib and Saidul Haque Khandaker under the banner of Protocol and Metro Video. The film's cinematographer Tuhin Tamizul, production designer Ali Afzal Ujjwal and sound designer Shaib Talukder. The film is co-produced by Sensemakers Productions.
Earlier, in 2002, Tareq Masood made Bangladesh's face a little brighter at the Cannes festival. That year his film ‘Matir Moyna’ was selected for the Directors Fortnight category.
